MHC Hiking November 06, 2021
Note the different start time!
For our November hike, we will explore Baker Canyon, located near Black Star Canyon. This pristine land is not generally open to the public but on this day there's a special Public Access Day hosted by Irvine Ranch Conservancy (IRC).
Date: Saturday, November 6, 2021
Time: Plan on arriving around 7:50 a.m. We will gather, pray and get started at 8 a.m. when the event opens.
Who: Adults of all fitness levels and willing teens. Per IRC rules, no one under 12 may participate in this event.
Shorter hike: We will start by going down Black Star Canyon Road, then turn onto Tick trail and do the Sil Mod Loop which is about 3 miles total. It's a gradual incline until we reach a beautiful lookout point. Then we head down the other side of the hill back to the staging area.
Moderate: We will continue for a second, different loop south of the staging area on Hall Canyon trail, coming back Silverado Creek trail. Total distance for both loops is about 6.5 miles.
Directions: Take El Toro Road East (toward Saddleback Mountains); El Toro Road turns into Santiago Canyon Road when you veer left at Cook's Corner. Turn right on Silverado Canyon Road (follow brown signs toward Santiago Private Events). Make your first left on Blackstar Canyon Road (follow brown signs toward Santiago Private Events)
Travel 0.7 miles and park near Baker Canyon Road. Baker Canyon Road is marked only with another brown Santiago Private Events sign and a Private Road sign. Park on Black Star Canyon Road.
Meet outside gate on the right side of Black Star Canyon Rd just south of Baker Canyon Rd. There will be IRC volunteers standing at the gate. Don't go through the gate.
Bathrooms: Available at the staging area.
RSVP: Recommended and appreciated, but not required. I don't usually have phone service in this area, so I probably can't be reached last-minute.
Pre-register?: Pre-registration with IRC for this event is optional but recommended. Registration is free, and they don't send junk emails. You will get directions and possible updates via email.
Breakfast afterwards (optional): Silverado Cafe, 28272 Silverado Canyon Rd, Silverado, CA 92676
